Manchester United have expressed interest in acquiring Hoffenheim’s 21-year-old striker, Maximilian Beier.
According to Sport Bild (via Sport Witness), the Red Devils have proactively inquired about the terms of a potential transfer for the young talent.
Beier is also attracting attention from Liverpool, Nottingham Forest, Brentford, and Bayer Leverkusen.
However, it is United who have taken the first step by asking about his release clause, which is currently set at €32.5 million.
This clause, typical in German football contracts, decreases by €2.5 million each year.
This progressive reduction could potentially make the deal more appealing over time, but the current price remains substantial for any of the interested clubs.
Beier’s performance last season for Hoffenheim has certainly turned heads.
He played in 35 matches, primarily as a striker, and managed to score 16 goals while providing three assists.
These statistics highlight his potential as a future star, making him a tempting prospect for clubs looking to bolster their attacking options.
Liverpool and Nottingham Forest, along with Brentford, are also in the mix, potentially creating a competitive bidding environment.
Beier is a versatile right-footed attacker, adept at using his left foot effectively.
His game is defined by precise timing and anticipation, allowing him to exploit spaces and make calculated forward runs.
Beier excels in creating and finishing chances, showcasing exceptional dribbling, spatial awareness, and the ability to turn defensive situations into scoring opportunities.
His composure in the box and ability to finish under pressure make him a standout talent.
Although his off-ball pressing and aerial proficiency need improvement, the German’s ability to play across the front line and deliver with both feet makes him a valuable asset.

People might see this is a little hypocritical, and to be honest, I’m not 100% backing it as it’s not a simple and straight forward decision, but I understand it and I’m OK with it.
For this one, I agree with the sporting directors, and I am totally fine with Conor Gallagher being sold this summer.
People hear me preach for experience, leadership, and players who are passionate and love the club. People see me preach for warriors and players who leave everything out there. Gallagher ticks all of those boxes, so why am I OK with him leaving?
To begin with, I don’t actually think he starts when everyone is fit, will HE be content being a squad player? I’m not so sure he would be.
Also, I agree with this…
Liam Twomey of The Athletic reported Chelsea’s sporting leadership and ownership have not been convinced that Conor Gallagher should be integral to their long-term midfield plans.
It is why they were prepared to accept a £45million ($57.5m) offer from Everton in January last year
Why West Ham and Tottenham were emboldened to express serious interest the following summer.
It is also why Chelsea have spent north of £300million on midfielders in the past 18 months, headlined by the nine-figure transfer fees paid for Enzo Fernandez and Moises Caicedo.
Chelsea also need the money incoming to balance the books, we all know that, whether there are PSR concerns or not. We can’t just keep buying without selling big too, and I truly believe we still need to spend in at least three key areas this summer.
I love Gallagher, I love his attitude and how he fights for the team. But in terms of quality, I don’t think he’s quite there. I think the rest of our centre midfielders have more quality.
I’m probably still in the minority by being OK with Gallagher being sold, but this is a decision that I would actually pretty much back.
I think with the style of football that Enzo Maresca will play as well, other midfielders we have suit that a lot better than Gallagher does.
Gallagher is a solid, tenacious, and reliable player. But he doesn’t do much extra, he doesn’t have much x-factor about his game. We need players to stand out and take us forward. I will always appreciate Gallagher and I do think he will be missed and it’s not an easy decision at all. It will be a tough decision, but I think it’s one that I will agree with if he is sold.
I completely appreciate others might disagree with this and I respect that fully.

Former Liverpool man Harry Kewell has slammed the performance of the referee after his team fell to defeat in the AFC Champions League, saying his side were “robbed.”
The 45-year-old is the manager of Yokohama Marinos in Japan, a post he has held since December after moving away from management in the EFL.
He quickly led his side to the final of the most prestigious club competition in Asian football, the AFC Champions League, which pitted his side against Abu Dhabi’s Al Ain.
Unlike the European version, the final of this competition is over two legs, it allows both teams to play at home – and it was Kewell’s side that played host to the first leg.
They finished the 90 minutes with a 2-1 advantage, and on Saturday made the trip to Abu Dhabi, where they were put to the sword to lose 5-1, with the tie ending 6-3 on aggregate.
Yokohama Marinos had to play the second half with just 10 men after their goalkeeper was sent off, and Kewell was incensed with the referee falling for Al Ain’s theatrics.
“My players were fantastic. It’s just a shame that we got robbed tonight by a bad referee,” Kewell was quoted as saying.
“I thought the refereeing decisions were shocking, they were terrible. They were playing the game, and he fell for it. But congratulations.”
When talking of his club’s travelling fans, he dug the knife in a little deeper, saying: “They’re fantastic … it’s just a shame it wasn’t a fair enough game to be able to put on a good show.”
You expect he may have a case to answer to with those comments!
The referee awarded nine fouls against Kewell’s side and eight in his favour, while also showing two yellow cards to Al Ain’s players – but that clearly will not soothe the ex-Red after a bitter end to his bid for the trophy.
Instead, it was Hernan Crespo who lifted the trophy with his side – 19 years to the day when the duo met in the Champions League final in Istanbul!

The Spanish press have blasted Sevilla coach Quique Sánchez Flores’ decision to barely play Manchester United loanee, Hannibal Mejbri this season.
The campaign started positively for the Tunisian as he managed to make his way into the United first team squad and even scored his first goal as a Red Devil, smacking in a great goal in the 1-3 home loss to Brighton in September.
In fact, Erik ten Hag was mightily impressed with the Tunisia international, calling his performance “perfect” against Burnley at the end of September.
However, by Halloween the player’s role in the team had dwindled and it was decided that he would go out on loan to Sevilla in the January window.
Mejbri spoke of his excitement on the move and suggested that the style of football and league would be a great fit.
However, what has followed has been a nightmare. A falling out in training saw the midfielder briefly excluded from the squad before quickly being reinstated by the coach.
However, all in all, the player has had little to no opportunity to show off his skills in Spain. He has played only six games this calendar year, for a combined 101 minutes of football.
In fact, since the 3rd of March, he has played a grand total of 11 minutes of football in Sevilla, in what has been a devastating season for the 21 year old’s development.
Local newspaper, Diario de Sevilla has highlighted the issue and blasted the coach’s role in the decision.
Sevilla have been far from impressive themselves, collecting 41 points from 37 games and floundering in 13th place in the table.
The paper claims that Flores has “systematically ignored” Mejbri throughout the season and they believe he, alongside Tottenham Hotspur’s Alejo Véliz, have both been victims of a disagreement between the sporting management and the coach.
“Nor has the very limited prominence of Hannibal Mejbri been logical, whose arrival aroused a certain enthusiasm among the fans due to the technical and creative profile of the Tunisian midfielder, who also came from a European aristocrat such as Manchester United.”
The newspaper claims that both players “will return to England with the feeling of having lost half a year in their sporting career.”
The 21 year old’s inner circle have already complained about the lack of chances that he has received during his nightmare in Andalusia.
Hannibal’s future is far from secure at the club as it was reported that United will aim to sell him in the window as INEOS aim to carry out a massive clear out this summer to generate funds and comply with strict PSR rules.

Chelsea face Nottingham Forest on Saturday away from home in the Premier League for the early evening 5.30pm kick off.
It’s a chance for Chelsea’s players, Mauricio Pochettino, and now Todd Boehly, to put their money where their mouths are and continue the momentum and more importantly, the top performances we have seen across the last two and a half games. They’ve all talked the talk this week, now it’s time to walk the walk.
I think many are getting carried away and have short memories. We all remember recent games and periods where we have played well for even three games in a row, but then completely fold over and drop off again in the next two. I think for my own sanity I am remaining very cautious and not getting overly excited like others seem to be. But continuing this good form and doing it again on Saturday against Forest will certainly help increase my optimism a little bit more. But even if we do, I will still be remaining cautiously optimistic. I have seen and heard it all before.
But, we do have a great chance now to keep this going and build on the positivity of the last couple of weeks, because we have been incredible, especially in the Tottenham and West Ham wins. Has the tide turned? Have we turned that corner? This game on Saturday will go a little way to answering those questions.
Forest away though is a pretty dangerous game to go an play right now, purely because we are three games off the end of the season, and they are still not safe at all from the relegation zone. A point and even more so three points, would be huge for them and this will be treated like a cup final for Nuno Espirito Santo and his players.
They won their last game 3-1 away from home against Sheffield United, which was a huge result for them. Former Chelsea man Callum Hudson-Odoi bagged a brace. and how he would love to prove a few people wrong on Saturday too.
In recent games, Forest have only narrowly lost to Liverpool and Brighton, and they have had hard earned draws against Luton Town and Crystal Palace. They’ve also beaten Fulham 3-1 and drawn 2-2 against Wolves. They can setup tough to beat at home and against bigger sides will play on the counter. They recently lost 2-0 at home to Manchester City, but they had more attempts on goal (14 vs 11) than City did, despite only having 33% possession.
Chelsea will have to be on it defensively and in transition on the counter and if we do lose the ball high up the pitch.
We can expect Chelsea to boss possession, but just like they have in the last two and a half games (I’m actually sick of writing that ), they will need to make the most of said possession and be as clinical as we have been of late. If we do that, then we should have no problems at all getting past this potential banana skin game.
Mauricio Pochettino will have the final team news tomorrow, but there should be more boosts and returns from injury and of course, Christopher Nkunku should be in the squad again. There’s no point me predicting the lineup today because we all know that more often than not, we get the shock of more players being added to the injury list from nowhere, so I’m not going to jinx anything!
I do however think we will win this game. I don’t think it will be a big scoreline like West Ham, because they were just so terrible against us and I don’t expect Forest to be in the same state as they were in – but I do think we will win this 2-0.
I’ve not predicted many wins lately, so hopefully the fact I am now predicting a win doesn’t come back to bite me!
The one thing that does stick in my mind is we lost the home fixture against Forest 1-0 back in September, so they know they can beat us. Before that defeat, we hadn’t lost to Forest since 1997! Forest also had their points deduction upheld after appeal, so that has made them even more determined to earn those points back in the final games.
Former Blue Ola Aina, who will be looking to lock down their left hand side along with Hudson-Odoi, says the rejected points appeal doesn’t matter to the squad and they will keep doing their job to earn points back in the Premier League.
But Chelsea, especially if we are using the momentum and really have turned the corner, should be going there on Saturday and getting all three points, without any real doubts. Do we want Europa League or not? If we do, this is a perfect chance to strengthen our fight for that. Go ahead and prove we are on our way back!

Liverpool have confirmed that 17-year-old centre-back Carter Pinnington has signed his first professional contract, at the end of a breakthrough season.
Pinnington only turned 17 in February, but has been a mainstay for Liverpool U21s throughout the campaign and was even named in the first team’s Europa League squad.
From the Wirral, the lofty defender has played 22 times for the U21s so far this term, with 19 starts, having debuted at that level as a 15-year-old last season.
As Liverpool put plans in place for a new era with Jurgen Klopp and many of his staff departing, new contracts are being issued to many youngsters.
That includes a first professional deal for Pinnington, who was eligible to sign a contract of up to three years, which would take him to 2027.
His commitment follows that of U18s standout Kieran Morrison, also 17, who put pen to paper on a three-year professional deal last month.
Trent Kone-Doherty, Lucas Pitt, Fola Onanuga and Ben Trueman have all signed their first pro terms this season, too, while Liverpool have worked to tie down those already part of the first team.
Conor Bradley, Ben Doak, Bobby Clark, Jayden Danns, James McConnell and Calum Scanlon all put pen to paper, with Jarell Quansah and Lewis Koumas likely to follow.
Pinnington is primed to maintain his key role with the U21s heading into next season, but with a change of manager there could be an opportunity to impress.
His regular centre-back partner, summer signing Amara Nallo, has followed a similar trajectory and was even named in the matchday squad on two occasions for the first team.

Manchester United had recently announced that they would be making changes to the amount of games fans would need to attend in order to renew their season ticket at Old Trafford.
The 17/19 proposal required fans to attend 17 out of the 19 home league games to then qualify for a renewal the following season.
The previous bar was set at 14 games and a three match jump might have proved too much for some match-going Reds.
Options were available to send tickets back to the club that would then be marked as “used” but fans were not happy with the new policy.
After positive discussions, season ticket holders will now only have to to attend 15 matches next season in order to keep their seat for the following campaign.
Additionally, MUST confirmed “further increases from 15 to 16 and 17 will only take place with close analysis of the data to prove the policy is working, and in consultation with the Fans Forum.”
Furthermore, “the minimum usage will never rise by more than one game per season, and is capped at a maximum of 17 and for games which have not sold out and where buy-back from the club is disabled (such as Sheffield United last night), you will be allowed to forward your ticket to non-members as well as members,” explained the Trust.
The news will be seen as a huge result for match-going fans who are often the last to be considered when it comes to changes in policies or schedules.
United have just three games remaining at Old Trafford this season, starting with Burnley’s visit to Manchester tomorrow (Saturday).
Then comes two interesting looking fixtures against Newcastle and Arsenal respectively, which will play a huge part in where United finish in what has been a wretched league campaign for Erik ten Hag and his troops.
United currently sit in sixth position in the Premier League and are fighting to qualify for next season’s Europa League.

http://thesoccersport.com/2024/04/18/new-enzo-injury-claims-a-concern-shouldve-been-rested-sooner-talk-chelsea/
http://thesoccersport.com/2024/04/18/new-enzo-injury-claims-a-concern-shouldve-been-rested-sooner-talk-chelsea/#respondThu, 18 Apr 2024 12:29:48 +0000http://thesoccersport.com/2024/04/18/new-enzo-injury-claims-a-concern-shouldve-been-rested-sooner-talk-chelsea/
Yesterday I wrote an article questioning whether Enzo Fernandez needs to sit out a game or two coming up.
This at the time wasn’t even anything to do with any injuries, it was more about the fact that Moises Caicedo and Conor Gallagher played so well together in the double pivot on Monday night and that actually, with Gallagher playing deeper we have more defensive stability.
I think it’s a warranted question and debate, but my conclusion was that we have to have Enzo in our starting Xl way more often than not, for me that’s not a debate. How do we get them all together and playing in their best positions and to their strengths? That’s maybe for another article, or even for the actual coach of the team! But it’s a nice problem to have.
Anyway, since I wrote that one, further news came out via Argentinian sources suggesting that Enzo might now actually need to have surgery on his hernia injury and is contemplating having it. If he does, he will miss three weeks. Obviously it would be best to wait until the end of the season, but can we and Enzo risk doing that?
I reported last week that we heard Enzo’s injury was not a bad one, and it isn’t. But it is one that has been there and has been consistently bothering him. Enzo is another player who we understand has been playing through some pain this season and using pain killers before games. This is very common by the way.
So going back to my original question, maybe Enzo does in fact now need a few games to rest and if he needs surgery to finally get on top of the hernia injury, maybe he should just bite the bullet and go with it?
Enzo should have been rested in his last game, but he wasn’t and now we are without him again. Maybe we need to learn from that mistake?
The reality is that if he doesn’t go through with surgery now (if that news is correct) then he will be back in the squad for the next game, or maybe the one after. But that is then not dealing with the issue, is it?
I’ve written before that I believe Enzo has been fatigued mentally and physically after basically playing every game since he joined last season, and a large portion of them this season.
Whether he has his surgery or not, Enzo needs a break. As I’ve reported before on here, he has been unhappy with things at Chelsea in terms of the results; he is a winner and wants to win, he came here to win things at this club, and he’s been disappointed with how the team has been performing and also, that he has not yet played to the high quality he knows he can play at.
This injury has just been there, and it’s not helping at all. I believe it has effected his performances and if it hasn’t, then the fatigue certainly has.
We need Enzo at his best, and we need Enzo fully fit and not fatigued. I know this is a crucial part of the season, so a big decision will now need to be made between Enzo and the Chelsea medics. I truly hope they get this one right because this could be the most important one they make all season.
Chelsea will manage without Enzo, they showed that on Monday. But Enzo for me is a quality player and will become so important for us and already is really. We need him fully fit and firing on all cylinders.

Speaking about Liverpool’s 1-0 defeat to Crystal Palace isn’t a barrel of laughs, but two Reds supporters have plucked up the courage to do so.
Jurgen Klopp‘s side were beaten at home to the Eagles on Sunday afternoon, dropping more points in the Premier League title race and giving Man City the ascendency.
Here, Henry Jackson (@HenryJackson87) is joined by The Redmen TV’s Dan Clubbe (@dan_clubbe) to dissect a grim afternoon at Anfield and how the title battle looks.
Just how bad do you feel after that?
HENRY: I’ve reached the ‘not angry, just disappointed’ stage. I’m just a bit numb to it now.
This is what constant title battles up against Man City do to a man!
I never thought we’d lose that one, in all honesty, but it was another really concerning result that suggests the season is petering out.
Too many players have dropped well below their best – Ibou, Endo, Szoboszlai, Salah and Nunez all stand out – and they look a tired bunch.
Jurgen’s finale wasn’t supposed to end this way – here’s hoping there is still another major twist to come!
DAN: Unlike Henry, I feel horrendous.
Just the frustrating manner of it all in recent weeks makes it harder to make peace with and it’s another tough one to make any proper sense of.
We were all expecting a response from midweek, and if we’re honest, we barely got going until 30 minutes in and our usually trusty powers of recovery were nowhere to be found.
Plus, we’re all guilty of romanticising the importance of this season now with Jurgen’s farewell factor and that feels like it’s amplified the importance of every kick, including the highs and lows of every result or performance.
What do you think are the biggest issues right now?
HENRY: The finishing is, quite frankly, an embarrassment currently. We could’ve played for 24 hours and not scored.
I missed two open goals at seven-a-side a few weeks ago and I still feel superior to them in front of goal at the moment!
Those two United games really look like they’ve got into their heads, and there were so many individuals guilty of being wasteful.
When Jota is missing a tap-in, you know there are issues!
Going 1-0 down has been a problem all season and it’s not sustainable – why do Liverpool keep starting games so badly?
DAN: As Henry says, profligacy in front of goal was the main issue, without a doubt.
Once again, we created more than enough chances to win the game – and maybe even another one – without putting a side to the sword.
Although Palace deserve plenty of credit for the way they set up and defended, it’s another match we’re walking away from ruing missed clear-cut chances.
Other than that, maybe some fatigue has crept in, possibly a little of the belief has ebbed away after United, even a mini crisis of confidence.
A special mention alongside Henry for our obligatory slow start as well – where would we be without those!
Has Arsenal’s defeat picked you up at all?
HENRY: I’d be lying if I said it didn’t turn my Sunday from an awful one into just a quite bad one.
Realistically, an Arsenal win would’ve effectively put them four points clear because of their superior goal difference, so it was a big result for Liverpool.
All it’s done is play into City’s hands, though, and history suggests that when you give them a lead in April, that’s the end of it!
Arsenal fans have been getting well above their station, though, so it’s always pleasant to see them being humbled.
It’s two shocking results for both teams.
DAN: It 100 percent picked me up.
In the immediate aftermath of another deflating result, it felt as though Man City and Arsenal were bulletproof, so to be given almost an instant reminder that at least one of them has frailties of their own certainly renews the faith a little.
Although it doesn’t change the title complexion massively, the fact there are still points there to be won and dropped is enough for me to carry on believing.
Not to mention by this point in our Liverpool fandom we’d all be mad to write off any Reds side, let alone one with Klopp at the helm.
How do you assess the title race now? Has it gone?
HENRY: To suggest that a title race is over when two teams are only a couple of points behind the leaders is crazy, but it does feel like that.
It hasn’t gone, though.
City have just skewed everything because they’re so relentless at this point in every season, so Sunday did feel pivotal.
A defeat in April never used to be a major issue for the great Liverpool sides, or any of our rivals’ brilliant teams, but it’s different now.
City are now very strong favourites, simply because I believe they will win every remaining game, but to paraphrase Kevin Keegan: I would LOVE it if they threw it away from here.
DAN: It’s definitely not gone, but made more difficult without a doubt.
Needing favours has never really worked for us but if we can – and it’s a big ‘if’ on recent evidence – start to take care of our own business, then I do have hope there will be another twist or turn in the title run-in and it won’t be the procession many are now anticipating.
In no world would I want to be placing all my hopes and dreams at the door of Spurs, but here we are!

Manchester United return to Premier League action this evening with a trip to the capital to face Thomas Frank’s Brentford.
It’s a return to the scene of one of Erik ten Hag’s most harrowing days as United boss who watched his side capitulate to a 4-0 reverse last season, in what was only his second game in charge at the club.
United will be hoping for a much improved display this evening with three points vital in their attempts to hunt down Aston Villa and Tottenham.
An evening kick off will give the home fans a create a special atmosphere at the Gtech Community Stadium and United will have to manage the early minutes well – something they failed to do last year.
With Lisandro Martinez back in the fold, United will have a much better chance of keeping the ball and building attacks through the lines with the Argentine’s quality, should he start.
It’s a tactic Ten Hag will look to employ to quieten down the crowd and allow United to progress into dangerous areas.
Kobbie Mainoo’s class and temperament will also be vital in the middle of the park with Martinez likely to link up with the talented 18-year-old throughout proceedings.
United also finally have a confident front-line to choose from and Ten Hag will feel he will have players on the bench who can make an impact, too.
Marcus Rashford and Alejandro Garnacho will likely start the game on the flanks of Rasmus Hojlund who will look to continue his fine form before his injury.
Getting the ball into the attacking trio will naturally be United’s best chance of securing maximum points with all three capable of the spectacular both individually and collectively.
With Brentford missing a few key players, United will look to expose a fragile backline and get the wide men in one-v-one situations as often as possible.
However, the home side will provide a threat of their own and the sought-after Ivan Toney will hope to leave his mark in another big game to further cement the hype surrounding him.
Harry Maguire might be the preferred choice to deal with the threat of the big striker, who provides a physical challenge.
Should United deal with set pieces and settle into their passing rhythm, the individual quality of the attacking players Ten Hag has at his disposal should have enough to win the game and keep the faint hopes of qualifying for the Champions League alive.
